Prepare Him Room - Week 3
The Angels Visit the Shepherds (Luke 2:8-20)
This morning our kiddos heard the story of the shepherds watching their flock at night when an angel appeared to tell them the the greatest news of all, that a Savior was to be born in Bethlehem. The angel was announcing that God was finally, after hundreds of years, keeping his promise to save them from their sins. We now know how Jesus would do that: he grew up and never sinned. Then he took our sins on himself and died in our place on the cross. Jesus took our punishment so that we could be adopted into God's family. This advent season we are thankful to belong to God and his family through the work of Christ.
In the Home
Below you'll find an outline of this week's Prepare Him Room family devotional in order to give you a heads up as to where you'll be leading your family.
Part 1 - God's Promise: It Will Happen in Bethlehem
The book says to invite people to church letting the know our service times. (I would even add our Christmas Eve service on Dec. 24th from 5-6:30p). However, rather than just inviting them to church, what would it look like to invite our neighbors into our home? Maybe not for a full meal but for desert and something hot to drink. What if people's first exposure of Christ was not in the church but actually in our living rooms?
Light the first, second, and third Advent candles and the read the Micah 5:1-2:
"But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, who coming forth is from of old, from ancient days." (Micah 5:2)

"And the angel said, 'Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you in born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:10-11)

Light the first, second, and third Advent candles again and then read Luke 23:33-46
"Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." (Luke 23:40-41)

Bartimaeus: A Christmas Story - Ch. 3 "Adopted"
Get ready for the Colonel to drop the gospel in the Bartimaeus House. Joy to the World becomes much bigger to all the kids than just a song but tangible hope in the midst of despair.
"You're all wrong," he continued. "God has adoption papers ready for each one of you. They're just waiting for you to pick them up. And you don't have to wait till Christmas." (Page 59)
Take a look at the highlighted portion below to see what our kids will be quoting in the Gathering on January 6th.
