Sunday with your kids
Lesson summary: God conquerors Jericho but spares one family by His grace
In our bible story we learned:
1. The people of Jericho melt with fear
2. God affirms his care and leadership of the people
3. Jericho falls under the power of God
Where is Jesus?
How does today's Bible story fit into God's greater plan of redemption?
"By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days." (Hebrews 11:30)
With the story of Rahab's faith, the author of Hebrews included the Israelites who blew their trumpets in an unified act of faith. Why was their faith and the resulting collapse of the great walled city included in Hebrews? It is designed to motivate us to look at Jesus! It is Jesus who perfected their faith; Hebrews tells us it is Jesus who will perfect our faith for He is the only author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Family Discipleship - "Time" in the Home
We are on week 44 which starts on page 284 in the Long Story Short devotional. It's pretty cool when you see the Spirit connect what we talk about in sermon in the Gathering and what our kids learned on Sunday morning. I wish I could say we're that good at planning, but that would be false. All kids and adults came around one solid truth from Sunday, and it was this, "Humility comes before honor." As the Israelites were commanded to the rediciulous, of humbling themselves and looking foolish, we too are to steward our 4 T's and V (time, talent, truth, treasure, and virtue) in crazy, risky ways unto the Kingdom.
Pray about it! As a family, pray God would reveal specific areas for you to steward better and what it would look like to live a life of risk for the sake of the Kingdom.
